Anywhere on Earth
Iridium Certus covers the planet pole to pole, so a WII6 buoy reports from anywhere a ship, hovercraft or helicopter can place one: no base station, no shore infrastructure, no line of sight to anything but sky. Floating or frozen in
One instrument, two operating modes. On the surface of sea ice the buoy measures how waves penetrate and move the ice; floating at the ice edge it measures the open-water spectrum. The electronics are the same either way; the hull is the choice.
Built into what you already have
The WII6 electronics are a board set, a motion sensor and antennas. The Sparton sensor proven on multiple WII5 deployments remains an option. The electronics are designed to fit the hulls that carried WII5 and can be integrated into a hull or platform you already have. If you have a buoy that should measure waves, talk to us: fitting the instrument to an existing platform is a possible starting point for integration.
From a vessel
A vessel-mounted instrument is another possible use. The vessel’s response to waves would shape the measurements. Talk to us if you are interested in exploring an installation on a ship.
